Millville Man Convicted of Sexually Assaulting Two Young Girls

A Millville man is potentially facing life in prison after a jury found him guilty on 13 counts in connection with the sexual assault of two young girls.

Last Thursday, August 28th, 34-year-old Brian Scherfel was found guilty on multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, criminal sexual assault, sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Details of the Crimes

The Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office says during the trial, the State presented evidence that Scherfel sexually assaulted two girls — one, in 2016, who was six years old; the second, between 2017 and 2022, who was between the ages of 8 and 13.

The State also presented evidence that both victims were physically assaulted by the defendant. This was alleged to have occurred in Millville.

Possible Sentencing

Sentencing is scheduled for December 5th.

Just one of the first-degree aggravated sexual assault charges that Scherfel was found guilty of could send him to prison for 25 years to life.

If he is released at some point, he would be required to comply as a Megan's Law offender, and he would be under lifetime parole supervision.

The prosecution was represented by Cumberland County Assistant Prosecutors Erin McGlynn and Caitlin Flynn. The defendant was represented by Terry Stomel, Esq.
