The public has watched in disbelief as both the state of New Jersey and the Atlantic City Board of Education have failed to take any action whatsoever regarding the criminally charged La’Quetta Small.

La’Quetta Small is the embattled superintendent of public schools, who was criminally charged by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office on Monday, April 15, 2024.

It strains credulity that La’Quetta Small has been permitted to remain as the active superintendent, while serious criminally child abuse charges have been filed against her.

By contrast, Constance Days-Chapman was suspended on the very same day that criminal charges were filed against her.

The Atlantic City Board of Education really has no choice but to suspend La'Quetta Small. But, will they?

And, if the local board fails to act … then, the state of New Jersey must take action.

Thus far, both entities haven’t spoken a word about La’Quetta Small. Small has also not addressed the criminal matter.

The alleged criminal activities of Marty Small, La’Quetta Small and Constance Days-Chapman were investigated by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office's Special Victims Unit.

MARTY SMALL is criminally charged with:

  • 2nd degree endangering the welfare of a child.
  • 3rd degree aggravated assault
  • 3rd degree terroristic threats
  • disorderly persons simple assault.

LA'QUETTA SMALL is criminally charged with:

  • 2nd degree endangering the welfare of a child.
  • 3 separate counts of disorderly persons simple assault.

CONSTANCE DAYS-CHAPMAN is criminally charged with:

  • second-degree Official Misconduct.
  • third-degree Hindering Apprehension of
  • Another.
  • fourth-degree Obstruction of Justice.
  • disorderly persons Failure to Report Child Abuse.

Multiple sources have privately conveyed to me that everyone knows that La’Quetta Small cannot remain as the active superintendent, until such time that the criminal charges are properly dealt with.

It appears that as soon as the next regular meeting of the Atlantic City Board of Education … action regarding La’Quetta Small will likely take place.

A scenario that has been shared with me is that La’Quetta Small may take a voluntary “administrative leave of absence.”

The optics are to allow it to look like La’Quetta Small is taking action on her own and not suffering the public humiliation of a suspension.

If the local Atlantic City officials fail to act … the state of New Jersey must.

NOTE: Atlantic City Board of Education President, Shay Steele may be taking some time off to deal with a potential health issue.
