I enjoyed a calm Sunday after a hectic Saturday that featured breakfast with three of our four grandsons at Uncle Bill’s in Cape May, play time at Mimi’s and Poppy’s, taking grandson No. 1 to basketball tryouts, and a fun trip to Borgata with two buddies in which a guy asked me to join him to smoke a joint in the parking garage. (I declined).
Three stars
- Eagles defensive tackle Jordan Davis (3 pass deflections).
- Lions linebacker Jack Campbell (15 tackles, 1 tackle for loss).
- Eagles place-kicker Jake Elliott (3-for-3 field goals in a stiff, swirling wind).Eagles’ best play The Eagles’ defense enjoyed another strong outing. The unit got off to a great start on the Lions’ first offensive possession, when Davis tipped Jared Goff’s pass and cornerback Cooper DeJean intercepted it and returned it 21 yards to set up Elliott’s first field goal.
Eagles’ worst play
The Lions’ defense also played very well. They stopped the Eagles’ vaunted “Tush Push” four times, including on back-to-back attempts late in the fourth quarter that gave the Lions a chance to win.
Turning point
The Eagles were clinging to a 16-9 lead and were faced with a third-and-eight from their own 37-yard line with 1:47 left in regulation. Quarterback Jalen Hurts’ pass toward wide receiver A.J. Brown sailed incomplete, but Lions cornerback Roc Ya-Sin was called for a controversial pass interference penalty that enabled the Eagles to maintain possession and run out the clock.
