Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner is scheduled to take batting practice at Citizens Bank Park ahead of the team's game against the World Champion Texas Rangers on Tuesday.

Turner has been taking ground balls and has been progressing well from his hamstring injury suffered back on May 3.

He was scheduled to take batting practice before the Phillies-Nationals game on May 18, but weather conditions caused the team to hit that pause button on that.

Turner has been absent from Philadelphia’s starting lineup since the injury but the team continues to excel without him, a testament to the team's 2024 roster depth.

Philadelphia has used Edmundo Sosa and Bryson Stott at shortstop with guys like Whit Merrifield and Kody Clemens getting reps at second base while Turner has been on the sidelines.

According to Phillies manager Rob Thomson, there is a chance that Turner makes the trip to London with the team on June 8-9.

What About Kody Clemens?

Kody Clemens has been a breath of fresh air for the Phillies.  Since being recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Clemens nine hits in 11 games, good for a .321 average with three home runs and 10 RBI.

He has taken some playing time away from White Merrifield, who has struggled to get going this season.  Merrifield is hitting just .188 with a .258 on-base percentage in 26 games.

Merrifield was brought over to be a super-utility type, but hasn't clicked offensively yet, giving Clemens more opportunities against right-handed pitching while Turner is out.

Taijuan Walker Update

Phillies starter Taijuan Walker is set to make his next start after taking a line drive off his foot on Friday night, which forced him to leave the game.

He is scheduled to pitch on Wednesday against the Rangers, if he is unable to go, Spencer Turnbull would get the start.

In four game since returning from the IL, Walker is 3-0 with 16 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched, and a 4.91 ERA in four starts.
