Big names sidelined ahead of crucial Eagles-Commanders matchup
While the Philadelphia Eagles' 2025 season has been a rollercoaster ride, they ultimately control their destiny heading into this Saturday's matchup with the Washington Commanders.
If the Eagles win on Saturday evening, they do more than just clinch a spot in the NFL Playoffs. Philadelphia has the opportunity to win the NFC East for the second straight year, and knock the Dallas Cowboys out of postseason contention.
The Commanders are already eliminated from the playoffs, and they are finishing the season without their star Quarterback Jayden Daniels, who reinjured his non-throwing elbow a couple weeks ago. Now the 4-10 Washington Football Team is starting former Eagles Backup QB Marcus Mariota for the eighth time this season.
The Commanders will also enter their matchup with the Eagles without another key player on offense, Tight End Zach Ertz. The man with the second-most Receptions in Philadelphia's Franchise History suffered a season-ending Torn ACL in his right knee against the Minnesota Vikings.
Who Else Will Not Be Available For This NFC East Rivalry Game?
Anyone who has been following the Eagles are surprised to see the two players who were ruled out for Saturday's game in Landover, Maryland.
After both players did not participate in any practices this week, Philadelphia has listed Defensive Lineman Jalen Carter and Right Tackle Lane Johnson unavailable for Saturday's game. Carter is still recovering from a medical procedure on his shoulders, and the expectation is that he will return for Philadelphia in the playoffs.
All-Pro Lane Johnson suffered a Lisfranc sprain in his right foot on November 16th versus the Detroit Lions. The Eagles purposely did not put their starting Right Tackle on Injured Reserve with the hope that he would return to action before the end of the regular season.
Even though Johnson has not participated in any practices for Philadelphia in recent weeks, he was seen on HBO's Hard Knocks show doing significant workouts at his home gym, with the footage showing the Eagles best offensive lineman looking as healthy as ever.
Philadelphia listed two reserve players as questionable to play on Saturday evening: Tight End Cameron Latu (Stinger), and Offensive Lineman Cameron Williams (Shoulder).
Washington's Injury Report revealed that the team will be without Starting Left Tackle Leremy Tunsil, Defensive Tackle Eddie Goldman, and Tight End Colson Yankoff. Tunsil, who is arguably the Commanders' best Offensive Lineman, is dealing with an Oblique Injury, and without him, the Eagles Pass Rush will see backup George Fant attempt to protect Mariota's blindside.
Goldman is a backup Defensive Lineman who is in the NFL's Concussion Protocol, and will not be available to return until at least next weekend. Yankoff is a reserve Tight End, and one of Washington's top Special Teams Contributors; He is dealing with an Ankle Injury.
The two players that Washington list as Questionable to play on Saturday are Cornerback Jonathan Jones (Rib Injury), and Defensive Tackle Jer'Zhan Newton (Illness).
