Atlantic City Boardwalk Named One of Atlantic Coast’s Top Attractions
The end of the summer brings some of the best weather to the Atlantic Coast.
From Maine to Miami, there are so many things to do and see, but the popular website World Atlas just named the nine best attractions to see on the Atlantic Coast, with one spot in Atlantic City making the list.
World Atlas Ranks the Atlantic City Boardwalk Among Coastal Elite
Sometimes we take things in our own backyard for granted, and this might be one of those times, with the Atlantic City boardwalk being included on the list.
A Rich History Starting in 1870
The historic spot is the world's first boardwalk, opening in 1870, and spanning about seven miles when you include Ventnor.

The Atlantic City Boardwalk opened in 1870 for a plain reason: hotel owners wanted to keep beach sand out of their lobbies and railroad cars, so they laid down a wooden walkway that came apart for winter storage. It grew from there into the oldest boardwalk in the world and, at about five and a half miles, the longest, now lined with shops, restaurants, and amusements. Steel Pier runs a 1,000-foot amusement park with rides, games, food, and a 227-foot observation wheel over the ocean. Nearby, the Island Waterpark at Showboat counts as one of the world's largest indoor beachfront water parks, with 11 slides, bars, restaurants, and a sprawling arcade. Just off the planks, the open oceanfront takes swimmers, surfers, kayakers, and parasailers once the boardwalk crowds thin out.
I will be the first to admit I haven't spent as much time on the AC Boardwalk since I moved off the island, but I used to be up there more often when I lived on Absecon Island.
The last time I was up on the boardwalk was during the MAAC Basketball Tournament in March at Boardwalk Hall, which hosts major concerts, sporting events, and shows.
