A man originally from Mays Landing has been extradited from Germany to the U.S. on federal charges of cyberstalking and threatening former classmates.

According to 2022 court documents, 29-year-old Kyle Stevens moved to Germany in October 2020. Shortly after, he began sending threatening messages to two female former classmates from the University of Delaware, authorities say.

Over several months, Stevens reportedly used sent the victims numerous threatening messages, including saying he intended to kill them by “put[ting] a bullet in [their] head[s]” and saying he could do so “whenever [he] want[s].”

Stephens has also been separately indicted for wire fraud and money laundering. According to that indictment, while Stevens lived in Germany, he applied for ten fraudulent loans or grants under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

According to WMDT-TV 47, the indictment says that Stephens allegedly filed those applications on behalf of five fictitious businesses and obtained approximately $1.4 million in fraudulent loan and grant disbursements.

Authorities have already seized much of that money -- over $1 million -- through forfeiture proceedings.

Alumni records show Kyle Stephens graduated from Oakcrest High School in Mays Landing in 2011.

The case is being investigated by the FBI with assistance from the University of Delaware Police Department and the Newark Police Department.

If convicted, Stevens faces a maximum of five years in prison for threats and stalking and 20 years in prison for wire fraud and money laundering.
