USPS Makes Changes to First Class Mail That Will Impact New Jersey
When was the last time you were at the post office? I know for me it's been a while. I would say at least the last 10 to 15 years, things changed when it comes to how we handle paying bills and mailing cards.
It's become a lot easier to pay a bill on-line or to use an App from your smartphone, like Venmo or Zelle. Things have surely changed with writing checks and dropping them in the mail.
Fewer and fewer people now are interacting even less than just a year ago with the United States Postal Service. But, there are still family members and friends that still go to the post office weekly.
The USPS's year end report for last year, 2024 revealed that USPS had a net loss of nearly $9.5 billion, up three billion from the year before. Wow! The USPS says factors for the loss are several things and from like non-cash workers’ compensation and retiree pensions.
We do rely on the post office for getting mail every day and I appreciate my mail man everyday for dropping off our mail. The United States Postal Service recently announced some changes, that will help them hopefully make some money for the years ahead.
USPS Announces Changes to First Class Mail
The United States Postal Services announce modifications to First Class Mail aiming to enhance efficiency and reduce costs, according to newsweek.com.

**14% of First-Class Mail will see an improvement in delivery times.
**11% of First-Class Mail will experience slightly longer delivery times.
Let's hope that delivery times will not take that much longer. I was reading a couple things that if you live in a rural area, this should be better for you. That's good news for you.
According to newsweek.com, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy says: "By implementing the new standards and the operational initiatives to which they are aligned, we will be better able to achieve the goals of our modernization plans and create a high-performing, financially sustainable organization, which is necessary to achieve the statutory policies and objectives established for the Postal Service by law."
When will the change start taking place with the USPS?
The modifications will be implemented throughout 2025. The first phase should begin April 1st, 2025 and the second on July 1st, 2025.
What this means for YOU.
Expect signification changes to mail deliveries and expect notifications from the United States Postal Service on how it will affect your schedule. Everything will be monitored by the USPS with adjustments being made, according to newsweek.com.
